St. Gregory was Pope Gregory I, known as Gregory the Great. Born in Rome, in the year 540, to a patrician family, he spent his fortune to establish several monasteries. Elected pope in 590, he used his office to alleviate the suffering of poor people. His reform of the mass became the Gregorian Chant. This sculpture is created of plaster and hand finished.
